In this teaching unit, students explore the interconnectedness of the 4 I’s of Oppression, develop an awareness of systemic marginalization, and collaboratively brainstorm strategies for combating these oppressive systems.

This specific unit is designed to support teachers in teaching and facilitating a challenging topic: oppression. This unit focuses on understanding the 4 I’s of Oppression – Ideological, Institutional, Interpersonal, and Internal. This is a foundational unit within our upcoming year long Ethnic Studies curriculum.

In line with our guiding principle of Solidarity, this unit centers around the essential question: “How are marginalized communities affected by the 4 I’s of oppression?
